Since my last post things have been a little wild. I have to start with the last few days and work backwards. I have been working hard on the local fundraiser event for a large national non profit. It has been the usual couple of long days. Last night I got home around 11pm and went to bed. I was beat. I got up around 8 am this morning and was taking my time getting ready for work. I didn't have to be in until 11am. When I walked out my front door at around 10 am I looked at the empty spot where I parked my car. I stopped. I looked again. I asked myself "Did I leave my car somewhere else?" No. Definitely parked it there. Then I called Alisa to make sure someone we knew didn't borrow the car. She didn't answer so I called the police. Alisa called back and confirmed. Someone stole my car from right in front of our house. Now anyone who has seen my car is asking the same question. "Who would want to steal my car?" I mean it is not great to look at. It is a 1992 with a dent fender, dent door, aftermarket hood, and the clear coat has peeled off. In short it is a beater. So, of course I don't have theft insurance. The car is only worth $1500. It doesn't take many payments to get to that. The police said it is probably kids taking it for a ride and will ditch it when it runs out of gas. So, if the car doesn't get returned in working order then it will be time to get a new car. (Well, new to me.) We had planned on waiting until the end of the year but that may not be in the cards.
That was a rough start today. But I still got to work and although it was tight everything got done before doors opened. In the big picture having the car stolen isn't that big a deal. I will get a new one. It will be a pain shopping for one but I will survive.
The rest of the week has been great. Alisa and I got to spend some time together. Last weekend we saw 2 movies in the theater and both Netflix movies. That is some kind of record. Then on Thursday we went for the ultrasound. That was pretty amazing. There is a person growing inside Alisa! We didn't find out the sex. We want to wait and find out when he/she comes out. Although I have known that we are having a baby for several weeks there is something about seeing it that makes it "more real".
So, as you can see it kind of sucks that the car got stolen but it is just a thing. Things can be bought. What I witnessed on that ultrasound was a new life. One that is part of me. And that is more important than any "thing" will ever be.
