Well, after 1 week to the day my car was found in East Oakland. We got the call last night on our way out to dinner. It was a little shocking and put quite a twist into our evening. The Oakland Police (OPD) called to tell me it had been found and was sitting in a tow yard. She gave me the number of towing yard. I called and got the info on how much it would be to get it back. I was not pleased but I needed to at least see it. Then the Alameda Police called and said I had to get vehicle release form before I could go to the tow yard. So off we went to the police station which was surprisingly empty. As in no one there. Not at the desk or behind the glass or nothing. I had to pick up the phone on the wall and wait for quite a while for somebody to answer and then come out to help us. Thankfully the form was easy to fill out and quick. Then the APD called the OPD to make sure I didn't have to get a form from them too. I didn't so we went to towing yard which was only a few miles from home. They told me on the phone there was "minor stripping" to the car. (Insert joke here) At 1st I was a little shocked. They took the turn signals from the front, broke rear passenger window, tore off the sun visors and rear view mirror and of course the stereo. It looks like they hit something on the right side too. I was tempted to just leave it and sign over the title to the towing yard. But I got in and looked around. It started fine and nothing was missing under the hood. After much contemplation with Alisa and Lou, her dad, (via phone). I decided to pay the towing and storage fee and take it. I drove it home and it looks like all the damage is superficial. It will take a few days to get everything repaired but I should be able to get another 6 months out of it. That will give us much needed time to save for a new car and be able to buy when we are ready. So the black bean may not be much to look at but she's tough and I am glad to have her back.
